Insurance Needs for Developing Schools

As you progress through the development stages outlined below, CharterSAFE staff and consultants will work with you to obtain the appropriate lines of coverage to protect your school each step of the way.

Stage 1

A New Developing School Creates a Board of Directors


INSURANCE NEEDED:

  • General Liability insurance for events (student recruitment, fundraisers, board meetings) sponsored by the school
  • Director’s and Officer’s Liability insurance to protect board members
  • Employment Practices Liability insurance for hiring process (including creation of job descriptions)
  • Fiduciary Liability insurance for employee retirement plan creation and management
  • Auto Liability insurance for hired or non-owned vehicles
  • Property insurance to insure business personal property

Stage 2

School Starts Recruiting Staff

INSURANCE NEEDED:

  • Workers’ Compensation
  • Employer’s Liability

Stage 2 is also when you need to secure employee benefits.

  • Educator’s Legal Liability
  • Pollution Liability and First Party Remediation
  • Cyber Liability
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Defense Cost
